Many folks on this forum are so excited that consulting companies are going to be affected by this bill. Many FTEs think they are safe and consulting companies going out of business will help them get their GCs faster. Wait and watch, such bills typically affects direct hiring companies more than consulting companies in the end.

Remember who is proposing these bills. Durbin and gang. Do you think they are trying to liberate the employees from the clutches of "bad" employers. I don't think so.

Many IV members has started seeing this anti-H1B bill as CIR 2009.
We are such a pathetic community !

Yes, I do agree that we should have some sense of personal responsibility and that is why the middle way is to rent out the house (probably at a bit lower price than your monthly mortgage) and pay the difference from your pocket - if you have to absolutely move out from the house. But, can somebody answer my question above..........why is the same house (not even a brick changed) being appraised at around 100k lower than it was done 2 years back, by the same bank??

Yes, This comes into picture once company decides to hire. Now hiring is teh last process and beofre that you get grilled in multiple interviews. Employer is tsill at liberty not to interview EAD holder. If you are not interviewed, hiring would not come into picture and hence this text of law in I-9 form is worthless for you for that position. This I-9 text will only cover the situation for the period after hiring not before hiring.

I have direct responses from Murthy and Rajiv Khanna now . Plus 2 other american lawyers I know. The answers have variations. I'm going to do my own research and would encourage others to do the same before coming to a conclusion on this.

I work for MSFT - I am a dependent on my husband's process (he works for another company), and I also have my own process filed, where he is my dependent.

When I asked if we could have 2 processes, the lawyer answered:

"There is no problem with you pursuing I-485 applications through the two companies since you and you husband have reverse roles in each process as principal beneficiary and dependent".

Hope this helps other people on the same situation.

Looks like this year USCIS understood they need some money and accept some extra applications, which may be the same file I485 when PD is not current. and date might go to end of 2007.

CADude and others... maybe your efforts are paying off. What I learned in this process is that have faith in your application filing. If everything is fine you'll definitely get the receipts. It may be either next week or in 2 weeks.

Couple of things...

1) Calling USCIS is useless...
2) Look for checks for cashed....
3) Keep in touch with our pending group. I gives you support and motivation.

Air India flying direct to India starting from feb 08, at least that's what I was told when I went through that horryifing experience in UK (see my post above)
Air India has been flying direct non stop to india from NYC area for quite some time now.......

and i was recently in seattle - driving by boeing facility (its actually right by the main freeway)- saw quite a few brand new planes with Air India and Jet signage.......so help is on the way :-)

also - am shocked that people still use travel agents - when all major airlines scream at the top of their voices that their lowest fares are online.....

i have flown non stop from NYC area at all times of the year and also have bought tickets for my parents from delhi-newark and return - all on continental.com and have never paid more than $1100 per person ...(sometimes even around 850) plus if you use the right kind of credit card online - you can recover almost 10% of the cost via rewards points.

I have attended the Interview for H1 B renewal at the US consulate in Toronto (Although i see a lot of posts concerning US consulates in India....thought this might be helpful for someone who would attend an interviewat US consulate in Toronto)

I attended the Interview on Jan 16th at toronto for H1 B renewal and i got my passport back on Jan 23rd (4 business days as the officer told me as jan 21st is a holiday...martin Luther king day)

I have been speaking to some people at the consulate and for them it is taking 5-8 business days and for some they got it in 4 business days.....the worst i have seen is for a lady who was coming to the consulate from past 3 weeks everyday and there is no ETA on her status..(i hope she gets her passport soon:) )...

Unfortunately most of the people who attended there did not know of these delays and are struck cancelling and re-booking their flight tickets and extending their hotel stay

Free calls sounds good ....

I am using mother india calling cards currently....
they are 2 cents a minute I believe...
a 10$ charge gives me 500 minutes...

so for $25 I get 1250 minutes which is around 20 hours....

I guess I can stick to this for now and wait for feedback from folks here to see if Vonage is really that good....

I doubt I will talk more than 20 hours in a month.

but FREE calls sounds lucrative...

I am currently on SBC for my land line and am using thier DSL also..

So to get vonage that will be an add on service, right ?
Does vonage work on DSL also or you need cable ?

We rode the same wave even last year with many of the same Guru;s predicting the same movement to 2007 and what we saw 2 weeks movement .

I do not remember the predictions of last year but the fact is , last year it jumped from Jan 2005 (in Feb/March) to May 2006 (in September). That definitely is a BIG movement.

I am also from India but the point I am discussing here is clearly a violation of law by Outsourcing vendors including IBM (not just Indian companies), TCS, Wipro etc. I work for a medium size consulting firm based in US and on H1 visa ...and I am impacted by these violations and I think I have the right to oppose this act.... to prove my identity shud I tell you my stories in Chennai consulate... or shud I tell u abt my days in b'lore or shud I tell you all abt my 24 years in India.. you can decide :-).

BUT regarding the L1 violation we have decided and this time the vendor is exposed to the authorities and justice is done. We have the support of good client managers who understands visa regulations.

If you are really sincere, why don't you send your name, phone number and employer name to IV and IV will put you in touch with the right people to complain?

One way to end his mis-information is to make a list of the companies who advertise on his show. After that we need to communicate with these companies about the lies he spews on his show and also threaten to boycott all their products, if they continue to sponsor his show.

Remember, I can't make a difference, you can't make a difference. But both of us can certainly make a difference.

my views exactly. this is what works in usa ..send letters to companies that sponsor his show. thats how it worked in don imus's case. if all immigrants boycott those products which sponsor his show ..dobbs will start fitting in his shant
